All of us in Colorado are enjoying the beauty of Colorado winter. Not too cold and when the snow comes it is quiet. My kids are sleeping after a snow day off from school. I canceled a class for the first time ever. The one perk of being in charge….I want to give you all a sketch of our next six months. It has been an awesome, hard but exciting couple of years to get to this moment. I finally feel a bit real. That it is all really happening. We know the space now and have produced two productions upstairs and many more downstairs. We had our first Chekhov class in 2012 meet Tuesday with 16 actors. That used to be conservatory size. Still is at Yale etc. I am sure. It was a very good week. Othello will go back into pre-production for a while with the full ride happening on May 31st now. Two first weekends in June. Look for news later. On opportunities to get involved mostly. Bob Davidson is now with us and that is my happiest news. After working together for about 13 year it is great to come back to the work again. And this time I will take some of his classes. He starts in less than two weeks. Please consider taking his classes. I know he has taught at the Academy but I think this will be more like NTC as we will try to keep going. And he and I will look for ways to collaborate in the future. No trapeze yet. But Releasing and Improv and some voice. We unfortunately get everyone into these categories. And as I say to you all we want to work with you as whole artists. Bob is much more than a movement teacher. He is one of the most extraordinary visionary artists of our time and I am proud to be his friend and colleague and so excited some of you will get to work with him first hand. Visit CTG and our web under adult classes to sign up for an interview. Do it now as spots are limited.
I will be teaching a Brecht/Greek class after Chekhov and Ibsen. This is the most fun. There will be music and yelling and politics and archetypal acting and Joseph Campbell. John Barton’s adaptations and Lee Breuer’s Gospel at Colonus are part of the background to this focus. And I hope to have Bob continue as well.
Then in May rehearsals for Othello. Then the big thing will be two summer intensives. June and July one month each for adults a contemporary class with a project and then classical with a project. For younger students also two month long intensives with movement voice and acting every day. June Chekhov for Young Conservatory and then July Shakespeare. Both months with performance pieces as well. We will publish a brochure and audition schedule asap. I am considering a production of Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams in 2012 fall winter. Many of you were around when I did this piece at DCPA in 1990 something.
You are all right here with me as this happens. We have so many incredible actors and artists now with us. There is always room for more. Send us your news. Write us and call us. Just stop by. I am there all day everyday. Nathan Bock also there a lot. And as always we are grateful to you all and to L2 for giving us this beautiful home. jenn
